Basic Purpose of the Role

A Pediatric Nurse will diagnose and treat medical conditions in adolescents and children, and they may administer minor procedures as required. They also provide education to family members by answering questions and providing follow-up information as needed. Understands, supports, and promotes the mission, vision, and values of the Organization. Provides age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. Adheres to and promotes the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. Promotion of health and delivery of health education.

Clinical Practice

Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the organization’s policy and procedures and the unit scope of service.

Assumes accountability and responsibility for own practice and does not carry out tasks beyond the level of competence.

Utilises evidence-based practice in the provision of care

Coordinates individualized care from the point of first contact throughout the episode of care, incorporating discharge planning in the plan of care.

Identifies significant changes in patient conditions, initiates appropriate action, and reports to immediate supervisor or physician as appropriate.

Prioritizes patient care based on ongoing assessment of patient needs

Participates in the referral process and utilizes available resources for the provision of comprehensive care to patients and families as per organizational policy.

Demonstrates service excellence and acts as a patient advocate to support the patient’s rights and dignity at all times.

Facilitates a climate of mutual understanding, and appreciation of cross-cultural differences inherent in a multicultural society.

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care

Administers medications according to organization policies and procedures. Understands actions of medication and contraindications, evaluates patient’s response and identifies side effects, and initiates appropriate action.

Is accountable and responsible to practice within the Ministry of Health and HA-AD Narcotic Policies and Procedures.

Reports Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) and Medication errors in accordance with organization policy.

Responds to all levels of emergencies according to the organizations’ policies and procedures.

Demonstrates a working knowledge of resource consumption and practices within a cost-effective framework.

Communication

Maintains confidentiality and security of patient, family, and organization information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.

Responsible for documentation and participation in the use of information technology and relevant electronic medical records.

Facilitates effective communication between the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary health care team as required.

Liaises with other health care providers as necessary to ensure appropriate and timely interventions for patients and for discharge planning.

Actively participates in meetings, rounds, and case conferences in the role of the primary nurse.

Provides comprehensive clinical handover and reports as required to ensure patient safety.

Ensures that nursing documentation is compliant with organization policies and procedures.

Ensures documentation reflects a continuous, systematic, and accurate nursing assessment of all patient care events.

Establishes and maintains professional boundaries with patients and members of the health care team.

Performance Improvement/Risk Management

Participates in quality improvement activities by assisting with the development of standards, implementation, and review of policies, procedures, guidelines, evaluation of indicators, and reporting of outcomes and trends.

Monitors and assists in evaluating unit operations and services in order to correct problems, improve systems and ensure safe patient care.

Participates in interdisciplinary teams and Performance Improvement Projects for the evaluation and improvement of processes and clinical practice.

Actively contributes to the organization’s culture of patient safety.

Ensures provision of a clean and safe working environment that minimizes risks to patients, visitors, other staff, and self. Identify faulty/defective equipment/furniture; remove from service and report to immediate supervisor for action.

Required Qualification:

a. Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent qualification of NLT

3 years of study duration in “Nursing” from an accredited program,

OR

b. Associate Degree Nurses from North America. (Binding), with

evidence of passing the National exam

(USA: NCLEX – RN) – Canada: Licensing Exam.

*AND valid/current national license.

*AND BLS

Desired Qualification :

* ACLS, PALS relevant to the area of specialty.

* NOTE: this excludes programs comprising 2 years nursing + 1 year Midwifery or Community Health. Holders of such programs qualify as Practical Nurses.

Required Experience:

a. NLT 2 years clinical experience post qualification in

appropriate setting (Note: Experience requirement waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges/universities after completion of internship).
